Newlyweds Tax Checklist

Summertime is wedding season!

If you are wedding planning, don’t forget to be tax ready with a “Newlyweds Tax Checklist”.

The checklist can be found on the IRS website HERE (Newlyweds tax checklist | Internal Revenue Service (irs.gov)) and includes several important reminders as well as useful links and forms.

Did you know you need to report any name change to the Social Security Administration? The name on a person’s tax return must match what’s on file at the SSA.  If it doesn’t it could delay a tax refund.

What about updating addresses with the United States Postal Service as well as the IRS?

Another thing to consider is updating tax withholding with employers. If both of you are working, you may move to a higher tax bracket or be affected by the additional Medicare tax. The checklist has additional information that may be helpful, so check it out.

With so many things on the wedding “to-do” list, don’t let the tax related tasks go undone.

There are a lot of expenses to include in the wedding plans.  If you want guidance budgeting through the process and into the future, I can help!  A budget can help plan for expenses, as well as saving for future needs.  A budget can help you decide where you want your money to go and teach you to spend intentionally as you head into a life together!
